Six Contemporary Printmakers in Wales

Annie Giles Hobbs--Sue Hunt--Chris Lloyd--Tim Long--Tom Piper--John Purnell

The Llantarnham Grange exhibition marks the third occasion on which the group has exhibited together in the past two years. Beginning at the Howard Gardens Gallery, UWIC, in 2000, the group went on to show at the Glyn Vivian Gallery and Museum, Swansea in March, 2001.

A variety of new work has been added for Llantarnham Grange exhibition and a portfolio of original prints has been created especially for this event. This display of work, along with the portfolio and the catalogue, is aimed at providing a wide public access to print-based art. With emphasis on reaching a young audience through the portfolio examples, glossaries and essays, the group hopes to reach and inspire a broad section of the public who attend the exhibition. Essays by historian Karen Hiscock are included in the first section of the book, alongside reproductions of the artists' work. A glossary of processes aims to inform those interested in a more detailed description of key printmaking processes used in works in this exhibition. Examples from the portfolio are reproduced in the catalogue, along with descriptions of the working methods used by each artist in the production of their portfolio contribution. Each member of the group has contributed their own essays on methods and techniques related to their working strategy. Finally, a short essay at the end of the publication highlights the origins of fine art printmaking and raises questions about originality and authorship in the digital age.
