Communication and compliance.






Looking at various individual differences does not really help much- it would be better if we had some sort of model which would guide and direct us. 

There are a number of models that have been put together attempting to explain why people engage in health behaviours (for example the health belief model and so on). These are just as important in explaining whether people adhere to medical advice or not. There is a separate Blackboard unit on these. 

A specific model, however, was that developed by Ley (1981, 1989). This cognitive hypothesis model of compliance suggested that compliance can be predicted by a combination of three factors:
