This unit aims to present a basic overview of the management of pain, focusing on (not surprisingly) the psychological aspects. By the end of this unit you should be able to:

• Evaluate some of the traditional methods of alleviating pain;
• Evaluate some of the medical methods of reducing pain;
• Evaluate psychological and multi-modal approaches to pain management;

In order to complete this unit you will need:

• Your brain!
• An introductory psychology text-book such as Ogden (2004) or Marks et al (2005). For a more advanced text you should use Horn and Munafo (1997)
