Web page instructions

These web-pages have been set up for you to use in order to complete your health psychology, health sociology or behavioural sciences module. Initially these were set up for those completing a health psychology module but this has now been extended to those completing a health sociology module (these topics have a great deal of overlap) or any behavioural studies type module.

All of the pages that are available to you have various elements in common, which you should note.

First of all down the left hand column there are numbers, headed by the word "Section". This indicates the number of different sections within the unit, and the current one that you are on is highlighted. In the example, given on the left you are in the first section of four (although this is just an example- there is only this page). On occasions, you will see that the number is followed by a letter (for example, 2a). This simply indicates that within this section there are a number of individual pages and you have to complete all of these before you move on to the next section.

To progress from one section to another, simply click on the highlighted link (which will appear in blue) or the button at the bottom of the page that says "I am ready to continue" or "I have completed the exercise and am ready to continue". When you reach the end of a unit your blue button will say "Close window", by clicking on this you will close the web down and be returned to your Blackboard page.

On each page you may find a name or reference highlighted in blue. This will take you to the Reading List page (which you can access by clicking on the link) which will provide you with the full reference.

You will also find individual words highlighted in blue. These will take you to the Glossary of terms, which will provide you with more details on that individual word or term. Again, click on that link for more information.

On some of the pages, you will see pictures, or images. Those that are circular can be clicked on and will take you to another page for more information.

On many of the pages there will be highlighted exercises- you are strongly encouraged to complete these as they will assist you with your learning. Some of them require you to complete a form and e-mail it to your tutor by clicking on the Submit to tutor button. If you do this, you will receive a response from the tutor concerned within one week. You must, however, ensure that you enter your name and e-mail address in order to get a response!

You SHOULD NOT print out these pages- they are supposed to act as material presented in a lecture. Therefore, you should complete the reading, and the exercises indicated along with taking any notes you feel are appropriate. Handouts are also available for each of the topics and these are shorter, and in a suitable format for printing. These can be accessed through your Blackboard pages.

You will also find additional information available in PowerPoint lecture notes, further web-links, more exercises and quizzes to test your understanding. All of these can be accessed through your Blackboard pages.
