During this unit, you will examine the relationship between gender and
health. Specifically, at the end of this unit you will be able to:
- Examine the relationship between gender/sex and mortality.
- Examine the relationship between gender/sex and morbidity.
- Examine the relationship between gender/sex and self-reported health.
In order to complete this unit, you should have the following:
- Your brain!
- A general, introductory, psychological text book.
Each of the following pages examines how gender is related to
health via a number of different definitions of health. You should note,
however, that we have our first problem- most of the studies have investigated
sex (i.e. biological definition) rather than gender (a social definition) and
this should be borne in mind when completing the reading.
