Tools for Recording CPD
There are many tools that can be used to record continuing
professional development and this website will list some tools
that LTDU can recommend.
Many of the tools suggested in this diagram cross over each
other, for example, Blackboard contains Wikis and Blogs already
built into each module and independent blogs/wikis can also be
integrated into Blackboard modules.
There is no right or wrong tool, just the tool that you find
easy to use and suitable for your needs. You may need to
try a couple of tools before you find the right one. You
can always ask the LTDU for advice and more information if
needed.
The following Case Studies at UWIC show how tutors are
encouraging their students to engage with PDP and what tools
they are incorporating. The same models can be adapted for
staff members who wish to electronically document their own
continuing professional development.
Case Studies at UWIC :
> Using SharePoint, an innovation within the Cardiff School of
Sport has enabled all first year students to link their student
portal personal documents to a private blog within Blackboard
with access only for their personal tutor.
> Also using SharePoint, the Cardiff School of Management are
launching a reflective log folder created in the student portal
with a link to a Blackboard blog, which will enable personal
tutors to access their student's reflective writing while they
are on work placement.
> The Cardiff School of Art & Design, the Cardiff School of
Education and the Cardiff School of Health Science are also
using wikis and blogs to support reflection and E-Portfolio.
